Gargan!

This is one of the first balloons I actually built using the software. I think it's actually the third, if you count the paper model that is shown in the Pictoral Navigation example. It was launched from Haines City, Florida and continued to climb until it was simply too far away to be resolved with the human eye.

The balloon was pretty large, hence the name Gargan, that's Gargantuan when a file name is devised by an old DOS jockey.

The testing here was to ensure that the candles could keep up with the heat lost by the balloon, or at least maintain enough heat to keep the balloon aloft until the candles had burned out. Basically, we wanted to assure ourselves that we weren't destined to start a raging wildfire in central Florida. The final analysis showed that the candles continued to raise the internal temperature, hence the lift, until they burned out.
